What big-name Mets figures think about Carlos Beltran fiasco - New York Post

After parting ways with Carlos Beltran on Thursday, the Mets are being lampooned by many fans and media alike, but Keith Hernandez, Pete Alonso and Marcus Stroman took to Twitter to insist the Amazin’s still can have a successful season.

“Everybody, calm down,” Hernandez wrote. “This current crisis is unfortunate to the nth degree, but not insurmountable. We have a solid team, good core of young everyday players, mixed with veterans, and a solid rotation. They have great camaraderie, spirit, a will to win, and they’re hungry.”

As for the NL Rookie of the Year-winning Alonso, he didn’t comment directly on Beltran’s departure, but ackowledged that the MLB sign-stealing scandal has rocked the sport.

“Yes: there’s a lot of craziness in the baseball world right now,” Alonso wrote. “At the end of the day, we have to do our job on the field and win the battle between the lines. Great things are to come this year. The boys will be ready. #LFGM”

Alonso’s message, which appeared to excite many Mets fans on Twitter, also pumped up Marcus Stroman.

“(S–t)…I’m ready to rock my bro! 🙌🏾,” Stroman wrote/a> to the first baseman who set the major league rookie record for home runs with 53 last season.

Stroman, who earlier tweeted “Sheesh” when the Beltran news broke, seemed stunned about how far-reaching this scandal has become.

“This is crazy. Truly can’t believe all this (s–t) coming out in baseball,” he wrote. “Just going to sit back and see how it all plays out. I know my thoughts but those will stay internal. I’ve learned that “no comment” is the best option at times! Lol”

Hernandez — who is finalizing a new three-year, approximately $2.4 million contract to continue as an analyst on SNY’s Mets games, according to The Post’s Andrew Marchand — had another message for anxious Mets fans: Take a deep breath.

This will all iron itself out,” he wrote. “So sit back, enjoy life. Life is good. Stop stressing. Our season will hinge on our bullpen. (Dellin) Betances is a good gamble and he’s pitched in NY. Atlanta and Washington lost key offensive players. Division wide open and very competitive. So relax.”

That might be easier said than done for a Mets fan base that has grown accustomed to organizational dysfunction.
