The one thing America can, as one, rally behind: a comeback story.
And Tiger Woods’ tale might top all challengers.
The back surgeries, the infidelities, the mug shot became afterthoughts Sunday, when the golf sensation won his first major in 11 years, claiming The Masters at 13-under.
Two presidents, one current and one former, who could not be any more different offered congratulations for a feat that not so long ago seemed unreachable.
“Congratulations to @TigerWoods., a truly Great Champion!” President Trump wrote.
“Congratulations, Tiger!” was the message from former President Obama. “To come back and win the Masters after all the highs and lows is a testament to excellence, grit, and determination.”
It was Woods’ 15th major, now trailing Jack Nichlaus by three for most ever. The Golden Bear was watching, too.
“A big ‘well done’ from me to @TigerWoods!” Nichlaus wrote. “I am so happy for him and for the game of golf. This is just fantastic!!! 👏🏼.”
It was a moment that seemed to move everyone, from fan to president to fellow sports superstars.
“I am literally in tears watching @TigerWoods this is Greatness like no other,” Serena Williams wrote. “Knowing all you have been through physically to come back and do what you just did today? Wow Congrats a million times! I am so inspired thank you buddy.”
