DENVER – Nuggets star Nikola Jokic has made it look easy on the court this postseason, recording four triple-doubles and averaging an astounding 24.5 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists through 12 playoff games.
After the games, at the press conference table, is where he’s struggled, entering into a lengthy battle with an unlikely foe: the microphone.
It all started after Game 6 of the Nuggets’ opening-round series against the Spurs, when Jokic got into a kerfuffle with the mic at the end of his media session. Fortunately, things turned around after Denver’s Game 7 win, and Jokic celebrated in kind.
(Warning: some NSFW language is uttered during this clip.)
But the 7-foot Serbian was once again thwarted by the mic after a win over Portland in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals. Jokic pulled the mic from its plug, and, in a moment that went viral, stared at the “broken” mic as if it was the ghost of 1998 Arvydas Sabonis suiting up for the rest of the Blazers series.
Alas, after a 25-point, 19-rebound masterpiece in Denver’s Game 5 bludgeoning of the Blazers at the Pepsi Center, Jokic triumphed over the mic – with an apparent assist from a well-prepared media relations rep.
“Thank you to whoever did this,” Jokic said after twirling the mic jubilantly.
Watch out, rest of the NBA: Now that The Joker has bested the mic, he just might be unstoppable.
