Raiders preseason week two snap counts vs Cardinals: Starting defenders play four drives of flawless football - Silver And Black Pride

We weren’t sure how much the starters were going to play in the Raiders second preseason game in Arizona Thursday night. We soon found out.

The starting offense came in for one drive. They drove down the field for a score in six plays and their day was done. That means pretty much everyone Derek Carr, Josh Jacobs, Tyrell Williams, and the entire starting offensive line hit the sidelines barely breaking a sweat.

The starting defense was a different story. They stayed in the game as long as the Cardinals had Kyler Murray at quarterback. Murray was in the game for four drives, and so too was the Raiders starting defense.

It was a total of 20 official plays (29%), but with the penalties the Cardinals were racking up, it was a lot more than that. The Cardinals had 11 penalties in the first half, six of which came in the first four drives. Add the two Clelin Ferrell hands to the face penalties, and the Raiders starting defenders were actually on the field for 28 plays.

In that time, they shut down Murray and the Cardinals offense. They had a net total of 12 yards in those four drives. That’s about a half yard per play average.

The final play was the exclamation point, with Lamarcus Joyner sacking Murray for a 9-yard loss and a safety to put the Raiders up 26-0. That’ll do, defense. That’ll do.
