Carlos Correa to 'Savage' Yankees: 'We're the apex predator' - New York Post

The Astros clearly weren’t intimidated by the “Savage” Yankees.

Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman were chatty after the Astros’ 6-4 ALCS-clinching victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday night in Houston.

“It’s a great series. We knew they had a great team,” the Astros shortstop told ESPN’s Buster Olney. “Like they call themselves, they’re savages. But in this jungle called the American League, we’re the apex predator.”

As for Bregman, the third baseman said he knew he wasn’t going to play baseball on Sunday.

“We knew this morning when we woke up, we’re going to be watching football tomorrow,” Alex Bregman told Brian McTaggart, the Astros beat reporter for MLB.com.

Jose Altuve, who has been a Yankees killer throughout their playoff battles, was more humble after his game-winning, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth sent the Astros to their second World Series in the past three years.

“I was facing Aroldis Chapman, [who] is one of the best closers in the league,’’ Altuve told The Post. “Nothing is easy with him. I just hit a homer, and I hope I don’t get to face him again because he’s that good. But at the same time, I was just thinking something I can drive, I have my game plan, I wasn’t trying to hit a homer. I was just thinking to hit the ball hard, get on base and keep the momentum. Thank God the ball went out and we won the game.”
