Today’s Penn State football news is headlined by reaction following the Lions’ loss at Ohio State and a look toward bowl season.
The Centre Daily Times caught up with a number of players after the game to learn why most are disappointed in Saturday’s result but still optimistic about the program’s future.
"You’re fighting for the culture, you’re fighting for the standard,” linebacker Cam Brown said. “You can’t just look like a bunch of front-runners and give up at the end of the season just because your goals aren’t met. You got to set new goals, and you meet those. And that’s going 1-0 next week for us.”
Elsewhere, Statecollege.com’s Ben Jones writes that the Lions already exceeded expectations this season at 9-2 entering a matchup with Rutgers to complete the regular season schedule.
“In the end, there is something to be said for that. The Nittany Lions showed up and played better than anyone expected, and better than everyone else who has tried the same,” Jones writes.
“Maybe it’s not elite, but if Penn State can continue to chase 10 or 11 wins and give Ohio State a scare even in the years when it shouldn’t, elite might not be that far off.”
ESPN dropped the Lions outside of the top-10 in its latest power rankings, while CBS says James Franklin’s conservative nature hurt the Lions early in the loss.
Postgame grades are in, and what will the Lions do when it comes to playing Sean Clifford or Will Levis next week, and perhaps both?
