Today in the black-and-gold links article we take a look at how the Seattle Seahawks defenders were talking about how the Steelers’ pass rushers were getting fatigued in the second half, and it made their lives easier.

- Nothing is worse than when you lose and someone essentially says you were up to snuff at your particular job. That is exactly what happened after the game when several Seahawks linemen said the Steelers’ pass rush got flat out tired in the second half.

The way Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks started, the Pittsburgh Steelers looked every bit the unit that tied for the NFL lead in sacks last season. By the end of it, they looked anything but.
At least one Seahawks player had a theory to explain why.
“You could feel them kind of start to get tired and wear down,” Seattle left tackle Duane Brown said, “and that helped us out in the second half.”
The Steelers brought down Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson on three of his first seven and four of his first 15 dropbacks. But they barely touched him after that, and the Seahawks used a quick passing game to take a second-half lead en route to a 28-26 win.
“We just took over,” Brown said. “They got tired. They’ve got the big guys over there. It’s hot out there.”

Kevin Gorman: Steelers lost not because of pass-interference penalty but their reaction

On a prayer of a pass from Russell Wilson to Tyler Lockett on a second-and-20 from the Seattle 27, Kelly was defending in front when Steelers strong safety Terrell Edmunds broke up the play.
It was ruled an incomplete pass by officials on the field, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll challenged the call. In slow motion, the video showed Edmunds making contact. As the minutes passed, the Steelers started to worry.
“I had a feeling,” Kelly said, “they were going to overturn it.”
And the NFL did, turning a third-and-20 into a first-and-10 at the Steelers 35 with the Seahawks leading by two points. There’s nothing quite like a 38-yard penalty to change the momentum of a game midway through the fourth quarter.
Three plays later, rookie receiver DK Metcalf beat Edmunds for a 28-yard touchdown pass, and the Seahawks scored a 28-26 victory Sunday afternoon in the home opener before 65,063 at Heinz Field.
“Regardless of whatever I think about the play, they made the call so I’ve just got to live with that,” Edmunds said. “I’ve got to live with the call that they made and then I’ve got to make the play down in the end zone.”

New-guy Nelson feeling it for Steelers: ‘I made a lot of good plays’

“People fail to realize I’m still an older guy,” Nelson was telling me. “I know I felt the flow of the game. I made a lot of good plays. It seemed like their game plan was to target me, and it wasn’t successful.”
Nelson was quick to change gears here. That’s a lot of positive talk, and the team’s 0-2. That, above all, takes center stage.
”Besides all that, man, we didn’t get the result that we wanted,” he continued. “We just gotta come back and keep working hard and strive to get better.”
He’s right, of course. This Steelers team has work to do — real work, and a lot of it — to climb out of this hole and to establish itself as a contender in the AFC playoff picture. While admitting the loss stings, Nelson also said he doesn’t feel the team is down and out by any means. Spirits may have been low in the locker room following this defeat, but the team still feels the same chemistry fans and media alike clamored about throughout OTAs and training camp.
