CLEVELAND, Ohio – Tony Romo has been praised for his ability to predict plays as a color analyst for NFL games on CBS. But he also seemed to nail one thing about the Browns heading into this season.
In just about every preseason interview Romo gave where he was asked about the hype surrounding Browns, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback avoided popular talking points like Odell Beckham Jr. or Baker Mayfield. Instead, Romo focused on the offensive line.
“I think it’s really going to come down to their offensive line,” Romo told InsideHook in early September. “Their offensive line played outstanding last year, and I think that’s going to be key.
“If they play as well as they did at the end of the year, I think you’ll see the Browns have a successful season. If people get hurt or if they don’t have the same group playing at the same level, that would be the reason I think they wouldn’t.”
The Browns’ offensive line drew a ton of criticism on social media after the team’s 20-13 loss to the Rams on Sunday Night Football. Rams’ star defensive tackle Aaron Donald was in Baker Mayfield’s face throughout the game.
Overall, the Browns’ offensive never got into a rhythm. And things don’t get easier moving forward. The Browns face the pass rushes of the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers over the next two weeks.
