49ers review: Looking at the winners and losers in the Browns blowout - Niners Nation

What a game that was. The San Francisco 49ers left no doubt that they are for real. Let’s get into some winners and losers from Monday Night Football.

Winner

Matt Breida

Breida started the game with an 83-yard touchdown. He also caught a five-yard touchdown pass from Jimmy Garoppolo. Breida’s big-play ability makes him the most dangerous runner on the team. Coleman’s no slouch, but Breida can make you and your teammate look silly.

Nick Bosa

Bosa was the best player on the field that featured a No. 1 overall pick, one of the best wide receivers in the game, and some serious talent on the 49ers defense. That didn’t stop Bosa from making an impact early and often. Here was his stat line: Four tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and four quarterback hits. Not to mention a gazillion pressures. I’ve watched a lot of his brother Joey. Nick is better, and that’s saying something.

Loser

Robbie Gould

What in the world happened Monday night with Gould? Kyle Shanahan told the media after the game that some of the snaps were off, and that may have had something to do with the missed kicks. I don’t think anybody will critique Gould, one of the most accurate kickers in league history. Seeing him go 1-4 will probably be the first and last time that’s ever happened.

Tarvarius Moore

I don’t believe Moore stepped on the field defensively. Not even when the game was decided. Jimmie Ward had three solo tackles, and they were all in the open field. Two of them may have saved touchdowns. One certainly did, where he forced Nick Chubb out of bounds. It may be a while until we see Moore on defense again.

Winner

DeForest Buckner

Buckner had a critical pass that he batted down. He also had a sack in the game, as well. Buckner hustled all over the field as usual. I could list almost any starter, but Buckner made key plays at crucial moments for the defense and allowed them to get off the field.

George Kittle

What is there to say that hasn’t been said already? Bosa Kittle finished with six receptions for 70 yards and finally found the end zone. On one play, he blocked three Browns. He’s an incredible talent and a joy to watch.

Emmanuel Moseley

How will Moseley ever hold up against Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry?!?!

I believe Moseley was targeted twice. He broke up one pass in the end zone, where he jumped around the intended target. E-Man showed some hops on that throw. On his other target, he pinned OBJ to the sideline and, while Beckham Jr. caught the pass, it was well out of bounds. The defense was confident in Moseley, and you could see why. He didn’t have an interception like the other two, but he may have been the best cornerback on the field Monday night.

Offensive line

This last one could be Tevin Coleman, or Fred Warner, or Kwon Alexander. When you win by 28 points, you’re going to have ample options. The 49ers set the tone offensively, and it started with their offensive line. In the first half, the 49ers averaged 12.1 yards per rush before contact. If you think that’s because of Breida’s long run, we can take that away. They still managed 6.7 yards before a running back was touched. That’s incredible. The holes this unit is creating are unmatched.
