The Pittsburgh Steelers, and their broad fan base, can breathe a sigh of relief after the team finally claimed their first win of the 2019 regular season. Their 27-3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football was capped off with a positive message regarding the team’s injuries heading into a short week. Those who left the game were able to return.
At one point it looked dire for two starters during the Week 4 victory. Cameron Heyward left the game early in the contest with a quadriceps injury, but was able to return to the field the next time the defense saw the field and never left due to the injury again.
Another scare took place when James Conner was carrying the football and was tackled awkwardly and limped off the field holding his left ankle. Tomlin acknowledged the ankle injury in his post-game press conference, but Conner, like Heyward, was able to return to the game and was a major contributor to the win.
Having both Conner and Heyward will be vital for the team’s chances when they host the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5 at Heinz Field, but if the Steelers could get some more of their walking wounded back on the field it would go a long way to helping the team not just win their second game in a row, but staying perfect in the AFC North.
Some of those players who could return are:
Roosevelt Nix (knee)
Vance McDonald (shoulder)
Anthony Chickillo (foot)
Vince Williams (hamstring)
Mike Tomlin and the Steelers won’t have much time to enjoy this victory before turning the page to the Ravens next Sunday, and Tomlin will address the media at his regular Tuesday press conference at 12:00pm ET.
Stay tuned to BTSC for the latest news and notes surrounding the injury front heading into next week as the team hopes to start stacking wins and get back into the discussion across the AFC and NFL.
