Spurs player ratings vs Arsenal: Son Heung-min much improved, Davinson Sanchez poor - Football.London

The first North London Derby of the season didn't fail to deliver.

Tottenham travelled to the Emirates Stadium looking to get one over on their fierce rivals and win the first three point since the opening day victory over Aston Villa.

The game couldn't have started better for Mauricio Pochettino's men, with Chrstian Eriksen benefiting from a parry by Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno to score from close range in just the 10th minute. Spurs doubled their lead five minutes before half time, Harry Kane dispatching the penalty after Granit Xhaka's unexplainable tackle on Son Heung-min.

But, Arsenal went in at half time having halved the deficit thanks to Alexandre Lacazette. The Gunners completed the comeback in the second half when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found a way past Hugo Lloris.

Going into the first international break of the season, how did the Tottenham players fair in the North London Derby? Take a look at football.london's player ratings below to find out.

Hugo Lloris

Saved well from Pepe late in the first half and gathered the ball bravely at the second attempt. Couldn't do anything about Lacazette's rocket of a shot just before the break but did save the Frenchman's header early in the second half. Fluffed a pass in his own box soon after but was bailed out by Alderweireld. He then made a great low save from Guendouzi before a flying tip over from Ceballos and then a full-length save to deny Xhaka from distance. Other than a couple of wobbly kicks the captain made a string of superb saves. 8

Davinson Sanchez

Struggled in the right-back slot and never looked comfortable. He's not happy when in possession and gave the ball away on most occasions he tried to dribble forward. This was a poor performance, although he grew somewhat better in the second half, but it was as much about the decision to play him out of position. 3

Toby Alderweireld

The most composed of the defenders in the backline and bailed out Lloris from a poor kick early on. 7

Jan Vertonghen

Back in the team and looked comfortable enough until Lacazette flew part him for Arsenal's goal before the break. Had a couple of lapses in concentration but that could be as much about his lack of game time. 6

Danny Rose

Made a great mid-air block to deny Pepe with his face at the back post in the first half. Picked up a yellow card soon after following a poor touch and hacking down Lacazette. It was his mistake in the build-up to Arsenal's goal before the break, giving the ball away with plenty of options to pass to. His distribution was poor at times and Aubameyang got in between him and Vertonghen far too easily for Arsenal's second goal. 4

Moussa Sissoko

Full of energy and popped up all over the pitch, all while trying to cover Sanchez. Found himself running through at goal in the final minutes but over-hit his pass to Kane in the key moment. Kane passed to him in the final seconds as well but he blasted over. Could have been the hero but those positions are just not where you want to see him. Loses a mark for those attacking decisions when he could have won it. 7

Harry Winks

Worked so hard and his pressing was excellent, particularly in winning the ball for Spurs to win their penalty in the first half. If it wasn't for Lloris' saves he'd have been the standout Spurs player by a long way. 9

Christian Eriksen

Followed up well to slam home Lamela's shot after Leno could only push it out. Forced the keeper into a flying save from a free-kick in the first half. Linked up superbly with Kane to put the striker through just before the hour mark. This was much better from the Dane and he was still trying to create late on and getting in blocks and tackles at the other end. 8

Harry Kane scores his penalty against Arsenal

Erik Lamela

Good movement for the opening goal with a diagonal run and shot then Eriksen tapped in. Set up Son for a chance early in the second period and began the move that led to Kane hitting the post. Came off for Dele Alli just before the hour. Battled away, covered Sanchez with Sissoko and finished with an assist. 6

Son Heung-min

Picked out Lamela with a weighted through ball for the Argentine to get a shot away, leading to the opening goal. Was wiped out by Xhaka for the penalty in the first half. Arsenal struggled with him sitting and waiting for the ball over the top. He had a shot deflected inches wide early in the second half. Faded a bit after that but this was much better from Son. 8

Harry Kane

Beat two players to flick on a header to Son in the build-up to the opening goal. Sent a shot at goal before the break that Leno spilled but he couldn't stab home the ball after Son prodded the loose ball back to him. Made no mistake with the penalty, burying it in the bottom left corner with Leno diving the other way. Linked up superbly with Eriksen before hitting the post just before the hour. Dubious penalty claim late on when he seemed to go down too easily. 7

Dele Alli

Came on and gave the ball away before moments later driving at goal and setting up Son for a chance. Offered Spurs a new option with his running down the left and movement. 6

Giovani Lo Celso

A couple of nice touches in the final minutes after coming on, but couldn't impact the game. 5
