The Mets have had discussions with the Twins about a Syndergaard trade and have interest in their top two prospects -- SS Royce Lewis and OF Alex Kirilloff, reports LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune.
The 20-year-old Lewis (the No. 7 prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline) is currently in High-A, while the 21-year-old Kirilloff (the No. 11 prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline) is in Double-A.

With a trade of Syndergaard at some point starting to feel "inevitable," SNY's Andy Martino reported that according to teams in touch with the Mets, the asking price for a July trade for Syndergaard is multiple top prospects. Rival executives say that they are skeptical Syndergaard can bring that return, given his middling performance this season.

If the Mets and Padres engage on Syndergaard without a third team involved, San Diego could be one of the best fits due to their terrific farm system. San Diego has eight of the top 100 prospects in baseball, according to MLB.com's rankings. That includes LHP Mackenzie Gore (No. 3 overall), INF Luis Urias (No. 20), RHP Luis Patino (No. 40), and LHP Adrian Morejon (No. 49).

Syndergaard is drawing interest from the Brewers, while some with the Astros are "intrigued" at the possibility of dealing for him, reports MLB.com's Jon Morosi.
SNY's Andy Martino reported recently that it is far more likely the Mets explore trading Syndergaard this winter, but that he isn't a total lock to be a Met beyond the July 31 trade deadline.
The 26-year-old Syndergaard is under Mets control through the 2021 season, so the Mets shouldn't be in any rush to deal him -- especially since his career-worst ERA this season means New York would be trading him at his lowest value.
While Syndergaard has struggled this season, his peripherals paint a rosier picture than his ERA. His FIP is 3.98 and his walk rate is close to what it was in 2018. But the inability to throw his slider as an out-pitch this season has changed the kind of pitcher Syndergaard is -- at least temporarily.
As far as what the Astros and Brewers could potentially offer for Syndergaard, Houston had the sixth-best farm system before the season, according to MLB.com, while Milwaukee was middle of the pack.
A few intriguing prospects on the Astros are RHP Forrest Whitley and OF Kyle Tucker, viewed by most as two of the Top 15 prospects in all of baseball. The Brewers have one consensus Top 50 prospect -- 2B Keston Hiura -- but he is already excelling in the majors and it's hard to see him being available.
