Wimbledon 2019 results: Novak Djokovic tops Roger Federer in thrilling five set final to defend his title - CBS Sports

An historic, epic Wimbledon Men's final is in the books, and this match will surely take a place in the annals of Wimbledon and Grand Slam championship lore among the greatest of all-time.

For the fifth time, Novak Djokovic is the Wimbledon champion after winning a breathtaking five-set final over Roger Federer, 7-6 (7-6), 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 13-12 (7-3) in a match that featured the first fifth set tiebreak in Grand Slam singles history. It was a back and forth, roller coaster match that was the longest Wimbledon final ever, and well worthy of Centre Court at the All England Club to close 'The Fortnight'. It was also another memorable chapter in the storied rivalry between two of the greatest champions this game has ever seen.

In the epic fifth set, the game's top two ranked players traded breaks early on, with Djokovic going up 4-2, and Federer battling back to tie the set at 4-4 and again at 5-5. Federer came up with a huge winner and aces to stay in the match and get it to 6-6, and came up with a break to get it to 8-7, but Djokovic fought off two championship points to break back, and keep playing. From 8-8 the players traded holds, including Djokovic saving two break points and Federer picking up several quick holds, with an excellent display of high pressure shot making on the biggest stage in tennis to get to the tie break. Djokovic jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the tiebreak and was able to hold on for the win.

Federer dominated the second set, and for a moment, it seemed as if Djokovic might have run out of gas early in the match before regaining his form in the third, but it was Djokovic's steadiness in the three tiebreaks that proved to be just enough to win.
